Description

Entrepreneurs view organizations differently than most people do. We tend to have a “big picture” perspective, so we evaluate an organization’s performance in relation to its overall purpose. Is it accomplishing its main goal as efficiently and effectively as possible? Are all the team members working off the same plan in pursuit of the same goal?

When I view today’s Christian Church, especially the Western Church, through that prism, I see a lot of “departments” (churches and ministries) doing the Lord’s work with dedication and zeal…but with little coordinated focus on the Church’s overall main goal: God’s biblically-expressed ultimate outcome. When I compare this lack of single-minded goal orientation to the early Church, I see a sharp contrast. None of the Apostles or early Church leaders was confused about what the payoff of their faith would be and when it would come. They understood they were in an army…an organization with a single purpose…and they knew precisely what victory would look like.

Today’s Church is a different matter. If we’re an army at all, we often spend more time decorating our foxholes than we do trying to win the war so we can go home. We seem to spend an inordinate amount of teaching and ministry time trying to make this life better rather than focusing on the better life God already promised us in his business plan, the Bible. That would be foreign to early Church Christians and martyrs throughout the centuries.

I’m so excited about God’s goal and Jesus’ complete mission (he’s not done yet) that I can’t keep it inside me. God’s big picture is so wonderful that it drives me to do anything I can to advance his organization toward his expressed goal. Do you feel the same way?
